An Oswego County judge has announced she will be running for one of the available 5th Judicial District State Supreme Court seats.

Judge Karen Brandt, who is currently serving as a Town Justice and Support Magistrate in the district, is a lifelong resident of Oswego County. In her role as Town Justice she presides over criminal offenses, vehicle and traffic matters, small claims, evictions and civil matters. In the role of Support Magistrate she works with both attorneys and parents during emotional and stressful child support and spousal support proceedings.

Judge Brandt says, "Being honest, capable, and ethical. These values guide me each day serving our community. My career has been defined by being a fair, honest, and experienced public servant. No matter the court, no matter the case, my duty and passion is ensuring justice and fairness. I've practiced this my entire career - and I'm ready to take that with me as your next State Supreme Court Justice."

Brandt is a graduate of SUNY Oneonta and Syracuse University College of Law. She’s served as a Judge for the Town of Schroeppel since 2012. Brandt also served as a Family Court Attorney from 2009 until 2014 when she became a Support Magistrate.  She resides in Phoenix with her husband, Scott Brown.

In the 5th Judicial District there are currently two open seats.
