Otsego, NY (WIBX) - An Ostego man will be spending the next year in prison after he plead guilty to third degree attempted arson and third degree insurance fraud. An investigation by New York State Insurance Fraud Bureau and other law enforcement agencies, found that 35-year-old Donald R. Kropp, intentionally set his family's Oneonta home on fire in 2009.

Kropp is currently being held in Otsego County Jail after being sentenced earlier this week. He's also ordered to serve five years probation and pay $80,000 in restitution, to New York Central Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Officials say Kropp was arrested several weeks after fire damaged the two-story structure home where he lived with his wife and three children. Two firefighters, out of the 75 who responded to the August 2009 fire, were hurt fighting the blaze.
