The owner of a Central New York flower shop is encouraging shoppers to buy local this Mother's Day.

Bill Waszkiewicz is the owner of Chester's Flowers in Utica, New York.

He says this time of year is a good one to tout the benefits of supporting the local economy.

Chester's is affiliated with a national "800" service but he says it is almost always better to call your local florist directly.

Chester’s sources as much as they can from Central New York and employs local people.  Businesses and hospitals seem to appreciate their sense of community and professionalism.

A family-owned business, Chester’s was started by Waszkiewicz’s grandfather in 1937.

They are very busy, and the store has a formula that appears to be working, as it has for this mom and pop shop for decades.

They have been in business for seventy-five years.  The store was started by his grandfather, J. "Chester" Waszkiewicz, in 1937.
