Utica, NY (WIBX) - Mayor Rob Palmieri is using a proactive approach to change the complexion of Utica, and he's got the hands to do it.

The City of Utica, along with participants from the Summer Youth Program of the Oneida County Workforce Development office, is repainting all of the city's 1,600 fire hydrants.

David Mathis, Director of Workforce Development, says the impact of the program goes far beyond giving summer jobs to teens. He says that it sends a signal to the rest of the community that good things can happen when you motivate the city's young people.

A $3,000 grant from The Indium Corporation is being used to underwrite the project.
