SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — A popular swimming pool in a New York state park has opened after being closed for nearly a year to undergo a multi-million-dollar makeover.

The Peerless Pool at Saratoga Spa State Park officially opened for the summer on Saturday.

State parks officials shut down the 55-year-old, Olympic-sized pool last August, three weeks before its traditional closing on Labor Day, because the facility's aging condition required renovations to begin as soon as possible.

Officials say despite the harsh winter, the project was completed ahead of time.

The state spent about $3 million to upgrade the pool complex, which now features a new bathhouse, expanded changing areas and more green space.

State parks Commissioner Rose Harvey will join local officials Monday morning to mark the pool's opening.
