QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (AP) — Experts will determine whether an upstate New York man accused of sending an inert hand grenade to a judge is fit to stand trial.

The Post-Standard says Joseph Schutta of Hadley remains jailed following the explosives scare last July at the Warren County Municipal Center.

Acting County Judge Jeffrey Wait ordered the psychiatric examination at the request of the public defender.

A postal employee found the suspicious package in a mailbox and notified courthouse security, which X-rayed it.

The intended recipient, Warren County Judge John Hall, had sentenced Schutta to jail in 2005 for threatening another person and possessing a gun with the serial number filed off.

Authorities say the package included writings about police inaction against people Schutta believed had committed crimes.

Schutta told officers he was "set up."
