Utica, NY (WIBX) - A senior staff member is reporting that Congressman Richard Hanna is recovering after open heart surgery. The preliminary report indicates that Hanna, Republican from Barneveld representing the 24th Congressional District in New York, had successful Mitral Valve surgery this week--They say the procedure was scheduled.

According to Web MD, the surgery is to replace or repair a damaged heart valve, which is recommended when a person has symptoms of heart failure. Hanna's spokesperson says a complete recovery is expected, and that Hanna is already looking forward to returning to work shortly.
In a released statement Hanna's Chief of Staff, Justin Stokes said, "Representative Richard Hanna had successful, scheduled mitral valve surgery this week. He is doing very well, with a complete recovery expected. Offices in the district and Washington, D.C. are open and staff members are available to serve the constituents of the 24th Congressional District. Representative Hanna looks forward to returning to work shortly."
