Route 46 in Rome will become part of the state's Scenic Byways System.

The road will be named the "Black River Trail."

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi says communities with designated scenic byways receive significant benefits, including the ability to obtain grants to improve the byway system.

The Scenic Byways Program now includes over 2,000 miles of roads in New York State.

The program was established by the Department of Transportation to help preserve unique environments and promote tourism.
