Over $167,000 in federal funding is headed to Griffiss International Airport in Rome.

The money comes from the Federal Aviation Administration and will be used to build a new de-icing containment facility.

The funding was announced by Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand.

“With winter right around the corner, Griffiss International Airport needs a new de-icing containment facility that can remove snow, ice or frost from planes as quickly as possible,” said Senator Schumer. “This funding will allow Griffiss International Airport to make the critical upgrades necessary to ensure planes are de-iced quickly, which will reduce wait times and ensure passengers and pilots can fly in and out of Oneida County without delay.”
