BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations is expected in Buffalo to meet with refugees and discuss their challenges.

Samantha Power is scheduled to be part of a round table discussion with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand Tuesday. They will be joined by refugees and representatives from resettlement agencies in the region.

Gillibrand, a Democrat, has urged President Barack Obama to raise the number of refugees accepted by the United States.

The U.S. State Department says about 85,000 refugees were resettled in this country in fiscal 2016. New York is among the top five states that received them, along with California, Texas, Michigan and Ohio.
