SENECA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a 27-year-old man was intoxicated and using his cellphone when his car struck a lawn mower being driven across a central New York street.

Officers in Seneca Falls say a 58-year-old man was riding a lawn mower in a crosswalk on Route 5 in the village around 2 p.m. Sunday when he was hit by a passing vehicle.

The lawn mower driver was taken to Geneva General Hospital for treatment of a broken pelvis and was later released.

Police charged the Geneva man operating the car with driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired by drugs, operating a motor vehicle while on a cellphone and failure to keep right. He was issued tickets and released.

Both the car and lawn mower were badly damaged and towed from the scene.
