Mohawk Valley Community College is currently under lockdown after a reported stabbing and fight involving two groups at the college this afternoon.

As a result of the incident at MVCC, the Utica School District has put Proctor High School, Columbus Elementary and Albany Elementary schools on lockout.

All after school actives in the district have been cancelled as well.

Utica Police are on scene and say the situation is under control and there are no further threats at this time.

The incident at is considered an isolated incident and is under investigation by the UPD, along with MVCC security and the administration.

UPDATED 2:37 p.m.- MVCC campus lockdown has been lifted.

Proctor High School and Columbus and Albany Elementary School lockouts have been lifted.

UPDATED 12/14 11:18 a.m. - Following an investigation, Utica Police arrested 21-year old Abdi Osman of Utica and charged with with assault and criminal possession of  a weapon.
MVCC President Randall VanWagoner issued the following statement regarding the incident:

"We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment on our campuses and are proud of how our students, faculty, and staff followed shelter-in-place procedures and handled themselves during the situation. We are also thankful to the Utica Police Department and MVCC Public Safety for their actions and exceptional service to the Mohawk Valley community. Their partnership allowed us to handle this incident quickly and efficiently.”

Both departments will have increased police presence on campus for the foreseeable future to deter any potential future acts of violence.
