The Oneida County Sheriff's Office investigated an incident at Westmoreland High School on Thursday involving a post on social media.

Students reported a social media post to the School Resource Officer made by a 15-year old student.

Deputies say the picture, which was taken in a classroom, showed a second 15-year old student with what appeared to be a rifle barrel  protruding from his coat.

Officials took immediate action, separating the students from the general population.

It was determined the two students involved had photo shopped the weapon into the picture.

Authorities say at no time were students or staff in any danger.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
