UPDATE: 05/04/2015 4:32pm North West Fire District Chief Tom Perkins has announced that investigators determined that the cause of the fire was an unattended stovetop.

The infant victim's mother and brother were playing outside when the fire started.  Neighbors and the American Red Cross are helping the family.

Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire in Van Buren, New York that left a two-year old dead on Sunday.

Officials with the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office say the little girl was trapped in the upstairs part of the Naylor Street home on Sunday, May 3, 2015.

A firefighter and a neighbor were hospitalized for minor injuries and smoke inhalation after trying to rescue the infant.

The home is said to be a total loss.
