ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — A western New York man who fractured his mother's skull with a hammer has been convicted of attempted murder.

A Monroe County jury returned the verdict against 31-year-old Julian Clinkscales on Thursday.

Prosecutors say Clinkscales went to his mother's Rochester home in December 2014 and told her he was going to kill her. He then chased her into her bedroom and beat her with a hammer, leaving her unconscious and with multiple skull fractures.

The woman's co-workers found her the next day after she didn't show up for work. She was rushed to a hospital, where she spent time in a coma.

Clinkscales was arrested in Ohio. He faces five to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced Dec. 6.
