Utica Police have charged a South Carolina man with attempted murder in connection with this past weekend's shooting on Lenox Ave.

Malik Clea, 25, of York, SC was charged Monday and faces additional charges of criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies.

Police say the officers who located Clea based on the BOLO description were working a Patrol saturation/supplemental detail, specifically related to the recent shooting incidents around the City. That patrol works 'hot spots' and area where gun violence is most likely occur, police said.

34-year old Willie Jefferson of Utica was shot in the face and groin early Saturday morning, and ultimately was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse where he was last listed in critical condition.
