State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie Visits The Utica Area

State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie made a stop in the Mohawk Valley today.

Heastie toured Empire Recycling with Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon.

He also rode along the Erie Canal Bike Trail in Marcy.

The trip is part of Heastie's annual upstate summer tour which he began in 2015 shortly after becoming speaker.

He says the chance to visit local communities helps him better understand the challenges and opportunities facing the state's different regions.

Heastie  is also visiting Schenectady today.
