The New York Mets were unable to pull off another late rally on Sunday at Citi Field and fell to the Washington Nationals 7-4.

The red hot Mets saw their 8-game winning streak snapped. Entering the game, New York had won 15 of 16, including the first six games of the 7-game homestand. After two come from behind wins on Friday and Saturday, the Mets had pulled to within 0.5 games of Washington for the top NL Wild Card spot. The loss drops the Mets to 1.5 back of the Nationals and to just a full game out of the second Wild Card position.

New York now travels to visit the division leading Atlanta Braves for three games starting on Tuesday.

The Nats' open a home series against the Reds on Monday.
