Marcy, NY (WIBX) - SUNYIT will pilot a program aimed at tutoring middle school students in science, technology, engineering and math.

The college is one of three SUNY schools selected, joining the New York Academy of Sciences and SUNY Empire State College.

A $3 million grant from the National Science Foundation will help develop an after-school program during the next three years.

Graduate students from SUNYIT will travel to schools in Rome and Utica to tutor high-need students, while helping them pursue an interest in STEM.

SUNYIT president, Wolf Yeigh, says the college is "pleased and excited to be part of this project."
