Canadian wildfires 2023

Smoke from the Canadian wildfires returned to Central New York on Friday as South - Southwest winds blew into the Mohawk Valley. The smoke particles prompted an air quality index (AQI) of Moderate from the DEC on Friday afternoon with an air quality level of 77.

The low air quality is of most concern to those who may experience respiratory issues on a normal day, including those who suffer from asthma, COPD, emphysema or chronic bronchitis.

What would have been a partly sunny day over Upstate New York turned into a yellowed, hazy overcast glow on Tuesday as smoke from Canadian wildfires drifted southward into the Mohawk Valley.
