Utica, NY (WIBX) - The Utica Aud was a melting pot of emotion, as nearly 570 undergrad students earned their bachelors degrees.

This year's commencement speaker was activist and nonprofit organizer, Malaak Compton-Rock, the wife of comedian Chris Rock. She said the goal of her speech was simple; do what is best for the community you live in.

"I live by the motto 'Service is the rent we pay for living,'" Compton-Rock said. "I just believe too much is given. Much is required. I've been very blessed in my life. But, I think quite honestly my life is even more rich, more fulfilling, because of the people that I've met on my journey serving others."

UC also held a ceremony for nearly 500 graduate students at the Stanley Theater. Their keynote speaker was Doctor Oba Gulston, a 2006 alumnus of the college and sports therapist for the Trinidad and Tobago soccer team.
