Utica Police have arrested a man for allegedly entering a home and stealing the purse of an 88-year-old woman.

Police say, they were dispatched to the 1500 block of Goodrich Avenue Thursday night and the female victim stated an unknown male had entered her home, stole the purse and fled.

A UPD tactical unit officer, who was in the immediate area, attempted to stop and question a male in a hooded sweatshirt on York Street near Oswego Street.

The officer noticed the man carrying a blue purse and was able to finally stop and frisk the man.

The man who was later identified as 49-year-old Mark McDermott of Utica was found to be in possession of the victim's purse and a concealed crowbar.

McDermott was charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny and Possession of Burglar's tools.
