Utica, NY (WIBX) - After receiving numerous complaints from residents about pedestrians walking in the road, Utica Police say they will be strictly enforcing a section of the traffic law that prohibits persons from walking in the road where there are sidewalks.

Police say it's a public safety issue for both motorists and pedestrians.

Those who violate the law could face a fine of $100 and up to 15 days in jail.

Last year, the UPD issued 286 summonses for the offense and say they will be vigilant in enforcement efforts this year as well.
