A Utica Police officer is being recognized for going above the call of of duty.

A young man recently had his bicycle stolen and was distraught because it was his only means of transportation to and from work.

Chief Mark Williams says after Officer Howard Brodt had exhausted all means of trying to recover the bike, he took $50 out of his own pocket and gave it to the young man toward the purchase of another bicycle.

Williams is publicly thanking Brodt for representing the UPD proudly.

He says Officer Brodt is a very modest and dedicated public servant and a fine example for others to follow.
