New York State's unemployment rate increased from 4.3 percent to 4.4 percent in May.

That's according to numbers released by the New York State Department of Labor.

The unemployment rate in the Utica-Rome area was 4.7 percent last month, up from 4.5 percent in May of 2016.

From May 2016 to May 2017, the state's private sector job count increased by 138.100.
