Town of Augusta, NY (WIBX) - Three people are undergoing treatment after being bitten by a rabid fox. The incident occurred earlier this week in the Town of Augusta. The Oneida County Health Department is confirming it as the fifth rabies case this year, involving a rabid animal biting a person.

Health Department spokesperson, Ken Fanelli said, "Already this year we've had seven people undergo post exposure treatment for rabies." Officials urge area residents to avoid contact with stray or wild animals, and to keep pets up-to-date on rabies vaccinations. The next rabies clinic sponsored by the health department will be held on Wednesday, June 20th at the Boonville Fairgrounds from 6-8 pm.
