Yanks’ Rally In 9th Not Enough, L.A. Holds On 10-8
Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run shot in the first inning, but popped up with the bases loaded in the bottom of ninth to end the Yankee rally in a 10-8 loss to the Angles.
New York stormed back from a 10-5 deficit with three runs in the ninth - a Mark Teixeira two run blast, and a bases loaded walk to Curtis Granderson - but Kevin Jepsen got A-Rod out to end the threat, helping L.A. avoid the sweep.
Albert Pujols, Eric Aybar, Maicer Izturis and Mark Trumbo each homered - for Trumbo it was his 24th.
Jared Weaver had allowed just five long balls all season but was touched up for three on Sunday - Rodriguez's two-run jack, a solo shots from Curtis Granderson and Eric Chavez.
Robinson Cano had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 18 games, a career best.
Weaver upped his record to 11-1 despite a sub-par outing - five runs on ten hits over seven.
Ivan Nova (10-4) was also lacking his best stuff, giving up six runs on nine hits over six innings.
The 54-34 Yankees host the Blue Jays in the Bronx on Monday night.
