Baltimore, MD (WIBX) - C.C. Sabathia kept the Yankees in it until the offense finally came alive in a five-run ninth inning as New York takes the first game of their League Division Playoff Series with the Orioles, 7-2.

Russell Martin sparked the rally with a solo-homer to lead off the ninth putting New York ahead 3-2. Ichiro Suzuki added an RBI single, his second of the night then Robinson Cano delivered a two-run double. Cano also came around to score on Nick Swisher's sacrifice fly, with all five runs (four earned) getting charged to O's closer Jim Johnson (0-1).

Sabathia (1-0) struck out seven over an impressive 8 2/3 innings, yielding two runs on eight hits and a walk.

David Robertson got the final out, a strike out of Ryan Flaherty.

Baltimore's Jason Hammel gave up two runs on four hits and four walks through 5 2/3 innings, and did not factor in the decision.

Suzuki got the bombers on the board in the first with an RBI-double to drive in Derek Jeter.

Nate McClouth gave the O's the lead with a two-run single in in the third, before Mark Teixeira tied the game 2-2 in the fourth with an RBI-single off the wall in right field. Teixeira, who missed a three-run homer by about two feet, was thrown out trying to reach second.
