2 Men Killed When Boat Capsizes While They Fished On Pond
ALDEN, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say two men have died after their boat capsized while they were fishing on a western New York pond.
The Erie County Sheriff's Office says it responded Thursday morning to a report of an overturned boat on a pond in the rural town of Alden, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) east of Buffalo.
One of the men was pulled from the water and emergency crews attempted to resuscitate him while others searched for the missing second boater. He was found about 15 minutes later.
Both men were declared dead at the scene.
Deputies say both men were in their 70s and neither was wearing a lifejacket. Officials say it appears the men were fishing when one of them stood up on the boat, causing it to capsize.
Their names haven't been released.
