This story is unbelievable and if true, comes at the worst time for colleges and universities after all of the negative press they've been receiving from politicians as of late. Is it possible, that a former college professor from an Upstate New York State university was on-the-take? New York State Police say it's true.

According to Troopers, the New York State Inspector General's office recently conducted an investigation into a former professor at SUNY Canton, located near New York's northern border with Canada, concluding there was enough evidence to arrest an educator there on charges that he took money from students in exchange for better grades.

According to NYSP, on April 8, 2025, the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in Canton, in coordination with the New York State Inspector General’s Office, arrested 45-year-old Rajiv R. Narula on eight counts of bribery in the third degree, which is a class “D” felony.

Troopers say, Narula, a former professor at SUNY Canton, is accused of accepting monetary bribes from students in exchange for higher grades. The allegations, as one might expect, have been rumored for quite some time and were so prevalent that he was dismissed from SUNY Canton in May of 2023, following the bribery allegations on campus.

Police say, Narula was processed at State Police Canton and arraigned before Town of Canton Justice Michael Morga. He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Canton Court on April 28, 2025 at 1:30 p.m.

NYS Police say the investigation remains ongoing.

It's unclear whether or not the school will hold students who allegedly paid for higher grades liable, and whether or not they will suffer any consequences.
