Acclaimed High School Coach Quits After He’s Harassed

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) — An upstate New York coach who led one of the top high school basketball teams in the state has resigned after being subjected to a bombardment of public harassment.

Niagara Falls High School Coach Sal Constantino says the harassment even happened when he was with his 11-year-old son. He says people said things that were "so, so wrong."

WKBW-TV reports Constantino is one of the most successful coaches in the school's history. The Wolverines are ranked by some in the top 20 for New York state.

Schools Superintendent Mark Laurrie says he wishes the harassers were as passionate about test scores and graduation rates as they are about high school sports. He says Constantine's resignation was a "sad day."

Constantino will continue as a special education teaching assistant.
