ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Albany International Airport and the roadway that connects it to nearby highways will get a $92 million upgrade.

State officials announced the funding on Tuesday. Of the total, $42 million pay for a new, expanded parking garage as well as interior amenities such as new flooring and lighting and better internet service.

Another $50 million will go to redesign and upgrade the road and interchange connecting the airport to Interstate 87 and other major highways. That part of the project is expected to begin in the spring and is slated for completion in 2020.

The state is chipping in $72 million of the total price tag.

Each year 1.4 million people fly out of the airport, which was built in 1962.
