Auction For Ex-Prison Postponed After Earlier Bid Rejected

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Cuomo administration officials have postponed a second auction for a former state prison near the Canadian border to give the state more time to determine if the property can be redeveloped.

The Office of General Services had scheduled the sealed bid auction for Chateaugay Correctional Facility in Franklin County for Oct. 17. OGS says it has postponed at the request of Empire State Development, the state's main economic development agency.

Adar Investment, a Montreal-area company, submitted a $600,000 winning bid in July during a public auction for the 99-acre, 30-building property located near the Quebec border.

OGS says the bid was rejected when Adar failed to provide the proper deposit.

At the time, state officials said the company indicated it would like to see property used as a summer camp for Jewish children.
