Investigators on Chenango Street in Port Dickinson on May 10, 2016. [Bob Joseph/WNBF News][/caption]The Broome County Sheriff's Office has released more information after human remains were discovered in the Chenango River, just north of Binghamton, New York.

Investigators say the remains found in the Village of Port Dickinson were those of a partially-decomposed female.

A man discovered the remains as he walked along the riverbank Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say a forensic examination was conducted at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton. They say the cause of death has been ruled "fresh water drowning." The manner of death has not been determined.

Investigators also say they have not made a positive identification of the remains.
