Binghamton Gets Funds to Replace Lead Water Pipes
The City of Binghamton is set to receive $663,185 from New York State to replace lead drinking water lines.
Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo of Endwell was involved in the introduction and passage of the Clean Water Infrastructure Act of 2017.
A total of $20 million is being awarded statewide to replace residential drinking water lead pipes that can be a source of lead exposure when the pipes corrode.
Health Commissioner Doctor Howard Zucker says “reducing lead exposure, especially in children should always be a top priority.”
The State requires health care providers to test all children for lead with a blood test at age one and two. Parents should contact their children’s doctor or nurse for more information.
