Binghamton Police Warn of Fundraising Scam
Binghamton Police are cautioning residents about a scam where two children are going door to door selling stolen candy bars.
The kids told people they would only accept cash for their orders and, in most cases, told people they were raising money for a local church.
The children got $12 from an elderly resident, another time one kid ransacked a bedroom after asking to use the bathroom and, at least once, the kids produced an order form that looked legitimate. Police say there was one case where an adult was with the children.
Binghamton Police say people should always verify a fundraiser from the school or church and most fundraisers accept checks.
Never allow strangers in your home.
Binghamton Police say if you believe you are a victim of the scam, you should contact the City Police dispatch at 723-5321.
