Despite being its thirty-seventh year, race officials acknowledged some of the unique challenges posed by Boilermaker 2014.  Top among them was the weather, which - even up to race day - threatened to force cancellation of the race.

Tim Reed, who appeared this morning on WIBX First News with Keeler in the Morning, said Saturday night was sleepless as only Mother Nature knew for certain what weather the next day would bring.  After speaking with officials with the National Weather Service in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 13, he made the decision to move forward with the race.
