Broome County DA Announces Bid for NY-22 Congressional Seat
A Republican District Attorney has announced his candidacy for NY-22nd Congressional District.
Broome County DA Steve Cornwell officially launched his campaign Tuesday.
The 22nd District is currently represented by first-term Democrat Anthony Brindisi - who has not yet announced his intentions for the November 2020 election.
Another Republican, George Phillips, announced in the Spring that he also planned to seek the Republican nomination for the seat. Phillips lost in a GOP primary to Claudia Tenney in 2016 before she won the NY-22 seat. And, before district lines were re-drawn, Phillips also had an unsuccessful bid for the 22nd district seat, losing to incumbent Democrat Maurice Hinchey in 2010.
