Cause of Death for Rome Mother Found in Landfill May Be Determined This Week

A cause of death is expected this week in the case of a Rome mother whose body was ultimately discovered in a landfill last month.

Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara says there has been a delay in the report from the medical examiner because of what was done to Kerrilee D'Avolio's body after her death.

''There was significant postmortem injuries to the body. The medical examiner is bringing in an expert to help her and basically pull apart the injuries the body received [from the time] it was put into a dumpster...from the dumpster it's taken and compacted.'' McNamara said. ''There's a lot of work that needs to be done...''

Kerrilee D'Avolio's husband told authorities that he discovered his wife's body in their home, believing she died of an apparent suicide. Jason D'Avolio told police he dumped her body in a local dumpster and disposed of the weapon, but didn't kill his wife, McNamara has stated.

The 32-year-old mother of three's body was later found in the Ava Landfill.

McNamara says he isn't passing judgement on the case yet, but doesn't think Jason D'Avolio's version of events adds up.

''I'll wait for the autopsy results...but it hasn't changed by my view of what I stated initially - [that] I'm very suspicious about his version of what took place. ''
