Chick-Fil-A Restaurant Site Eyed in Vestal
The wait for a Chick-Fil-A restaurant in the Binghamton area may be coming to an end with news that a site in Vestal has been chosen for the chain's first Southern Tier operation.
Vestal town supervisor John Schaffer says a developer is making preparations for a Chick-Fil-A unit on the Vestal Parkway at Jensen Road. The site currently is home to the headquarters of the United Way of Broome County.
Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Schaffer said another restaurant also may be located adjacent to the site. He said the developer is working to open a LongHorn Steakhouse on the east side of Jensen Road.
Schaffer said if plans are finalized with the Atlanta-based Chick-Fil-A, the Vestal restaurant could open late next year or in early 2019. He envisioned a similar schedule for the proposed steakhouse.
The town supervisor said the local developer is acquiring a couple of Jensen Road properties for the restaurant projects.
Schaffer said he's excited about the prospect of a Chick-Fil-A restaurant opening in Vestal. He said: "I'm a fan."
The company has been gradually moving into upstate New York with several restaurants expected to open in the next two years.
United Way of Broome County interim director LoriAnne Welch could not be reached Friday afternoon to discuss the organization's future plans.
