Comets Fight Past Senators 7-4
The Utica Comets used a four goal third-period to muscle through the Binghamton Senators in a game that featured 11 goals, six fights, two penalty shots and a huge hit on the boards that shattered a glass partition in the first period and led to a several minute delay.
By a final of 7-4, the Comets racked up a fourth straight win with the help of a four-goal-third, and three goals in a span of less than two minutes.
Bobby Sanguinetti and Will Acton each scored twice for Utica (28-12-5-1) while Dustin Jeffrey, Cal O'Reilly, Alexandre Grenier and New Hartford's Mike Zalewski all had two assists.
Binghamton's Ryan Dzingel scored on an early penalty shot to give the Senators a 2-0 advantage just over two minutes into the opening period. Soon after, a big hit along the boards sent fans scurrying as a protective sheet of glass above the boards shattered. Utica's Grenier would later score to cut the deficit in half.
Back and forth play through the second period, set up a 3-3 tie to start the final frame.
The Comets' four game win streak -including two road victories over division rival Adirondack this weekend - has Utica 10 points up on the Flames in the North Division. They host Rochester on Wednesday night (7:00).
