Utica Comets head coach Kevin Dineen has been fired by the New Jersey Devils after an oh-and-8 start on the young AHL season. Assistant Coach Ryan Parent will serve as Interim Head Coach for the rest of the season. The announcement was made by Devils’ President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald and Devils’ Assistant General Manager/Utica Comets General Manager Dan MacKinnon.
A great deal of media confusion surrounds the recent arrest in Great Britain of a former American Hockey League player on suspicion of manslaughter following the death of NIHL player Adam Johnson.
British Police have arrested EIHL hockey player Matt Petgrave on manslaughter charges after the death of former NHL player Adam Johnson. Petgrave, who played two seasons with the Utica Comets from 2018 through 2020, was involved in a collision with Johnson during a game on October 28th that resulted in his death.
The Utica Comets have announced the rescheduled date for Monday's postponed game, which will resume already in progress. There was about 2:30 remaining in the second period with the Comets leading Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 2-1 when the power and all of the lights went out at the Adirondack Bank Center.
The Utica Comets home opener ended unexpectedly on Monday night, with spectators using their cell phone to exit the Adirondack Bank Center after a power outage. There was 2:43 remaining in the second period with Utica up 2-1, when the lights went dark.
Rochester fans insulted Utica through its most famous dish during game 4 of the AHL Northern Division playoffs on Tuesday, now the Utica Comets have forced them to sit at Utica's dinner table on Thursday night. Utica won a "barn burner" in Rochester, crushing the Amerks 4-0 and forcing a deciding game 5 Thursday night at Utica's Adirondack Bank Center.
