Chris Davis' ninth inning home run was the difference as the Orioles edged the Yankees 2-1 in the Bronx on Tuesday night.

The defeat doesn't really hurt New York's playoff hopes - they're 1.5 games behind the Blue Jays in the AL East but 6.5 up in the wildcard race - however, it's a bad loss considering the effort put forth by their starter. Masahiro Tanaka pitched eight innings, allowed just one run and struck out ten but did not factor in the decision. His only blemish was a solo homer off the bat of Ryan Flaherty.

Alex Rodriguez accounted for New York's lone run, a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth, which marked his 15th season with at least 30 homers.

Baltimore's Darren O'Day was credited with the win and Zach Britton earned his 31st save.

The series rubber game is Wednesday night (7:10) with C.C. Sabathia taking on Ubaldo Jimenez.
