MACOMB, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say divers have recovered the body of a 24-year-old man who drowned while kayaking on a northern New York lake.

State police say Julian Harris of Calcium in Jefferson went kayaking alone last Sunday on Pleasant Lake in the town of Macomb, near the Canadian border in neighboring St. Lawrence County.

Troopers say they responded around 7:30 p.m. that night to a report of a missing kayaker. Local fire and rescue units and the divers from the city of Ogdensburg Fire Department launched a search, which was suspended around 11 p.m.

The search resumed Monday morning and divers found Harris' body in 20 feet of water around 400 feet from shore. Troopers say an autopsy conducted at Canton-Potsdam Hospital determined the cause of death to be asphyxia due to cold water drowning.
