This morning Whitesboro Police are sharing details about an incident that occurred on Oriskany Boulevard over the weekend.

On Sunday, February 8, 2015 a driver left the scene of what police now believe was an accident that originated at the Nice 'n Easy on Culver Avenue in Utica.

Police were notified to be on the lookout for a black car, headed toward Whitesboro, with an open gas tank.  Sergeant Jason Buley, on stationary patrol in Whitesboro, saw a car matching the description that had already pulled into the driveway of a friend.

Prior to the stop in Whitesboro, Yorkville Police had picked up a nozzle and hose that appeared to have been thrown onto a curb there.

Police say that when they questioned the female driver, whose identity has not been released, she admitted that she had been involved in an incident and indicated that she did not know what to do.  Sgt. Buley said the woman cooperated with police and the entire incident lasted "about fifteen minutes."  Whitesboro Police then notified the Utica Police Department and the woman was instructed to go to the Nice 'n Easy to file a report.

No traffic violations were issued and no criminal charges were filed since authorities believe that it was an accident.  The only chase involved was that of the people trying to tell the woman that she had something hanging from her car.  "We all have bad days," said Sgt. Buley.

Watch the video as the driver travels down Oriskany Street from Utica into Whitestown on Sunday at around 1:30 p.m.

Jim Clifford, President of Clifford Fuel, the franchise owner of the Nice 'N Easy involved, says the hose that was ripped from the pump was a breakaway hose, designed to safely detach without causing major damage to the gas pump itself.  In this particular case it was "no big deal, and there was no environmental damage." Clifford confirmed that this kind of thing happens more frequently than some might imagine, and the special hoses are in place for exactly that reason.
