The F.X. Matt Brewery is announcing plans to expand the brewery's aging and fermenting process.

Several houses on Edward Street have been purchased by the company in preparation to add six 60 foot tall fermentation tanks.

CEO Nick Matt says the nearly $4 million project will not add any additional noise but each tank will eventually produce up to 1,500 more barrels of beer per year.

In addition, a new, roughly 20 car parking lot will be added that can be used by patrons of Saranac Thursdays and Varick Street during the evening.

The project requires the area to be re-zoned as industrial and will be brought before the Utica planning board this summer.

Once approved, Matt says the work could be finished by mid 2015.
