Whitesboro, NY (WIBX) - FEMA is announcing the upcoming closure of its Whitesboro Disaster Recovery Center on Oriskany Boulevard. Officials say the office will be closed at the end of the day this coming Thursday, October 27th. Peter Lembessis, FEMA spokesperson, says most of the needs in the area have been met, but reminds those who may still need assistance that the deadline to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency is also nearing.

Lembessis said, "As the demand goes down, FEMA and the state are deciding if we have reached approximately like the maximum of the people who need our services over there." He goes on to remind residents ... "Don't forget the registration deadline is November 14th." That's the time area residents have to register with the agency.

Lembessis says 141 people visited the Disaster Recovery Center in Whitesboro and received assistance when it opened earlier this month. He says in Oneida County, 363 people have registered with FEMA, and $560,000 has been approved for those who applied for help after suffering damages due to Tropical Storm Lee. To register with FEMA or to learn more about the federal disaster services available call, 1-800-621-FEMA or go on line at, www.fema.gov.
