Syracuse, NY (WIBX) - Former Syracuse University football defensive safety and San Diego Charger Steve Gregory is once again returning to the East Coast.

Gregory, who is a free agent, signed a 3 year contract with the New England Patriots yesterday after meeting with the team earlier this week.

ESPN.com is reporting the new deal could average between $2-3 million dollars per season.

Gregory was signed as a rookie free agent for the San Diego Chargers in 2006 after graduating from SU.

He has appeared in 85 games during his career with the Chargers, and last season intercepted a pass by Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and returned the pass for a 26-yard touchdown.
