Frazier, Lugo Help Mets Salvage Finale vs. Yankees
Seth Lugo filled in brilliantly for Noah Syndergaard in the Sunday night finale in Part 1 of the 2018 Mets-Yankees Subway Series, out-dueling Yankee-ace Luis Severino as the New York Mets salvaged the finale at Citi Field 2-0.
Lugo (2-1) was tapped to pitch against the Yanks' powerful lineup after the Mets decided Syndergaard wasn't quite ready to come of his brief DL stint (finger). The 28-year-old righty struck out eight Yankees, allowing just two hits over six shutout innings.
The game's lone offense came from former-Bronx Bomber Todd Frazier who clubbed a two-run homer of Severino in the fifth. Severino (9-2) left after five innings, striking out seven as he suffered just his second loss of the season.
The reeling Mets had dropped the first eight games of their nine-game homestand. They're now 28-34 and are off Monday before beginning at 10-game road trip.
The Yankees (36-27) are off Monday, too, and will host a two-game series with Washington on Tuesday and Wednesday.
