There's a bit of good news when it comes to Central New York gas prices.

According to Ed Welsh of AAA Northeast, the average cost for a gallon of regular gas in the Utica-Rome area is $2.91 a gallon.

That's only a penny more than what drivers were paying a week ago, but is a 17 cent increase in the last month.

However, Welsh says he expects prices to begin to decline.

"We (AAA) predicted earlier that May would be our peak month for pricing and I'm still believing that" said Welsh.

The statewide average is sitting at $2.97, while nationally it's $2.89 a gallon.
